Name: Gwendolyn DuBois
Program: Performance Arts (Music)
Sub-Program: Regular Arts (Drawing)
Personality: Timid around new people and shies away from groups. Quirky and eccentric, and very friendly when in a very small group or one-on-one. Has a huge inferiority complex and is constantly worried about not being good enough to please people around her.
Backstory: Ever since she was small, Gwen has been different. She grew up in a small town in rural Texas in a French-American home. Adults talked down to her, assuming she didn't understand the "big girl words" they were using. Other children accused her of being a show-off and a teacher's pet. But really, all she was doing was being herself. Through all of elementary school and middle school she had a single friend, the other kid who was bullied at the small private school she attended. Because of the stress from her social situation, she began to stress-eat, and by eighth grade she was overweight, had glasses and braces, and was always the butt of some joke.
How they ended up at D’artifice Academy: She found out the day she finished eighth grade that her father had been transferred to a job in France. Excited for a fresh start and new opportunities, she began a strict diet and managed to lose quite a bit of weight before the plane flight to France that August. She didn't know anything about D'Artifice Academy before she found out her parents had enrolled her; they knew she was fluent in French, as they often spoke it at home, but feared that she would encounter the same social problems in a normal French school. When they heard about D'Artifice, they believed it was a perfect fit for Gwen. She had already expressed quite an interest in pursuing a classical vocal career and loved to draw and play piano. The day school started, Gwen showed up on campus by herself, having travelled alone for the first time. She's been attending the academy ever since.
